We must be mad cos on Dec 15th we're off on a sponsored moped run over the Cairn'a'mount. That might not seem much but it's a good 1000m climb. Lot's of stops on the way. Photos & mpegs to come. About 20 peds have signed up and all the local shops are supporting the event. It's for the brain scan dept at the local hospital. I reckon we all need our heads examining so it looks like the money's goin to a good cause. I'll add a link when it's avail. Come to the shop and sponsor us or get yur ped ready and collect some sponsorship.
Further update: So far about a dozen people are going to brave the weather. Some of the peds goin are: SS 50, AP 50, ST 70, CF 70 Chally, Tomos, Puch, Yam QT and Gary's Fitzifuck is all tuned up and will take on all comers!. Come & support us. We'll be collecting on the road so if you're along the North Deeside rd as far as Banchory, quick stop at the Feughside Inn (Strachen) then over the Cairn'o'Mount to the pub at Fettercairn. We may come back over the Cairn and back to Aberdeen along the South-Deeside Rd. Wrap up warm if your comin along. Pictures to follow.
Itinery: Leaving Aberdeen Beach outside the Washington Cafe for 10am. That's the only planning!!!!!!
WE DID IT!!! 9.30 am we start to assemble down at the Beach. Bacon rolls , cups of tea/coffee we're ready to roll. We are 10 mopeds, Graham has brought the URAL Trike up from Edzell (thanks for the waterproofs), Spence and Davie on XR650 , DR350 respectively, mainly there to keep us amused with monster wheelies, stoppies and plain shennanigans but also to be a 'FAST' response unit in case of breakdowns etc, two Thundercats and a GSX 600F just for support and pictures.
The Puch Maxi couldn't keep up so had to go in the van by the time we hit Cults (18-22mph max). The Tomos and the QT could out-run Dave on the Peugot Speedfight Ha Ha Ha but when the Tomos hit the 1000 ft climb that is the Cairn'o'mount, it had to get a lift as Darren was runnin outa puff pushing it but Lee made it to the top on the QT(even tho' he'd run outta fuel 3 miles after we had stopped at the petrol station in Banchory (1st stop) (Guess who was supposed to check the fuel yesterday). Harveys DAX made a lot of noise and his paramedic jacket was bright!!. The SS 50 proved faultless and ran like a sewing machine (5 Speed that is) Graham West normally drives a Blue Blackbird, so the power of the SS took a bit of gettin used to. Peebs' (6'plu 18st) ST 70 kept up nae bother (said he saw 45mph (must've been lookin at my speedo as I passed)). Daves AP 50 was singin along, stealing the lead every now and again. However, on the way back it gave up and had to come back in the van. Ah well at least Timbo had some company in the support van (the old Merc battle wagon (Jus gets stuck in gear eh Timbo!!!!). My (Dek) old Honda 70 Chally romped it but with my 'Tour pack' fitted it was strugglin uphill but after a stop at the top to plant more stones on the Cairn & have another smoke break, I free wheeled down without the engine and managed to pass every one but Gary on his highly tuned/ modified Fitzifuckizat monkey bike. I think my engine is about to blow but then again it takes a likin and keeps on tickin. Needless to say Gary's bike was the fastest by far and his day glow outfit obviously helped with the aero dynamics (Full Oilskins).
We stopped in Fettercairn for some refreshment and when two bobby's walked into the bar we thought of all those missing tax discs and in one case a missing number plate: ( If anyone finds B721 GAB please bring it to the shop). Then we huckled them for a contribution. Got £6 from the pair and they left us alone to enjoy our beers.
We took the long way home in the rain and drizzle and stopped once more at the Old Mill Inn for one more beer.
Made it back for 4pm. What a long day but in all we raised over £1400. What the fuck do you say to that. Well done everybody.
The Cheque was presented on March 3rd 2002 and we made the P & J.
